Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti - Norman Palace and Palatine Chapel - Cathedral - Church of the Holy Savior

 

 
If you are in Palermo for a day we recommend a visit to the historic center starting from the Church of San Giovanni degli  Eremiti , which with the charm of the red-plastered domes, is considered among the most interesting examples of Sicilian-Norman art and one of the symbols of Palermo. You can get there by taking the subway and getting off at Orleans station (located a 5-minute walk in Via dei Benedettini). Alternatively, you can get there by bus line 309 and get off at Piazza Indipendenza.

Going up Via dei Benedettini you will find Palazzo dei Normanni (or Reale) whose entrance is located in Corso Re Ruggero which runs alongside Piazza Indipendenza. Il Palazzo Reale  is the seat of the Sicilian Regional Assembly and is the oldest royal residence in Europe and imperial seat with_cc781905-5cde-3194_BB3b-136dbad II  e  Corrado IV .

From Piazza Indipendenza, go down Corso Vittorio Emanuele to reach the Cathedral . Continuing along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, formerly known as Cassaro and the oldest street in the city that cuts the historic center in two, you can find from souvenir shops to places where you can taste typical food. important of the city and continues straight to the sea for about two kilometers. Continuing along Corso V. You are close to one of the most important and ancient markets of the city; I will dance! Leaving the church, go up to the left on Via Casa Professa, follow it to the end and you will arrive at the Ballarò Market . Church of Santa Caterina and Piazza Pretoria - Quattro Canti - Vucciria Market - Capo Market

 

 
 
Continuing to climb Via Maqueda towards Corso Vittorio Emanuele, you will find Piazza Pretoria where you can admire the majestic Fontana Pretoria , Palazzo Pretorio or delle Aquile (representative office of the  Comune  di Palermo which is worth a visit) but above all you can admire the Church of Santa Caterina. The church stands next to a 14th century monastery of Dominican nuns and was built around 1566. The facade is in Renaissance style and inside, in Rococo style, there are very rich marble decorations and eighteenth-century frescoes, and for this reason it is considered a of the richest churches in Palermo.

Going up Via Maqueda you will eventually arrive in Corso Vittorio Emanuele where the Quattro Canti are formed. Also known as  piazza Villena, o Ottagono del Sole, o_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad781cf5890_Theater of the two main axes -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ Palermo and, as mentioned above, divides the city into the four districts. Another important market to visit is undoubtedly the Vucciria market . To get to the market, from Quattro Canti, going down Corso Vittorio Emanuele you will arrive at the intersection with Via Roma. Cross Via Roma and take the first street on the right (Via Pannieri) and you will already be inside the Vucciria. The name of this market derives from the word Bucceria, which derives from the  French  boucherie, (macelleria), (macelleria) In the market, meat was initially slaughtered and sold and later it also became a market for the sale of fish, fruit and vegetables.   "Vuccirìa" in  Palermo  means "3194-confusion of the -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_abbanniati).

If during the day you also want to visit the ancient Capo Market , from Vucciria take the bus line 101,102, and 103 (about 15 min) which will take you to Porta Carini which is the entrance to the Market. The Capo market, together with the other markets of Palermo, is an important retail agri-food point of sale.
